The Usual Rotterdam Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Usual Rotterdam, you immediately get that “this place knows what it’s doing” vibe. It’s one of those four-star hotels that doesn’t try too hard to impress you with flashy lobbies or over-the-top design — instead, everything just feels right. The staff actually seems happy to see you, which honestly makes such a difference after a long travel day. I mean, you can tell within the first five minutes whether a hotel gets hospitality, and this one absolutely does.
Location & Neighborhood
The location on Westblaak is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things in Rotterdam. You’re literally in the Centrum district, which means you can walk to most of the major sights without breaking a sweat. What I really appreciated was being so close to the Markthal — you know, that incredible horseshoe-shaped building with all the food vendors. The couples rating of 9.4 for location makes total sense because you’ve got romantic canal walks just minutes away, plus plenty of great dinner spots within walking distance.
The Room Experience
The room design strikes this nice balance between modern and cozy that’s harder to pull off than you’d think. Everything feels thoughtfully chosen rather than just picked from a hotel supply catalog. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms have that clean, minimalist Dutch design aesthetic that somehow makes even a quick shower feel refreshing. You’ll find all the usual amenities, but they’re the good versions — quality toiletries, proper lighting for actually reading, that sort of thing.
Breakfast & Dining
Breakfast here is where they really show off a bit. The buffet setup covers all the bases — vegetarian, vegan, and regular options that actually taste like someone cares about food quality. What’s clever is their breakfast-to-go option, which is perfect for those days when you want to grab something and head straight out to explore. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels where the breakfast feels like an afterthought, but this isn’t one of them. The coffee is proper Dutch strong, and they’ve got local cheeses that give you a real taste of what Rotterdam does well.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, it comes down to the fact that The Usual Rotterdam feels like it was designed by people who actually travel themselves. The 8.7 rating reflects what you experience — a hotel that gets the details right without making a big fuss about it. You’re not paying for unnecessary frills, but you’re also not compromising on the things that actually matter during a stay. The location score of 9.4 tells the real story — you can walk out the front door and immediately start experiencing Rotterdam rather than spending half your day getting to where you want to be.
Apartments in Rotterdam suit remote creatives with floor-to-ceiling windows, co-working lounges, and bike storage.

I loved my stay at the usual; the design of the room and the sustainable approach, as well as the common spaces were all great. Breakfast was delicious and the staff really friendly. I loved my stay there and would definitely stay at the Usual again if I come back to Rotterdam. Wish they had more hotels!
