I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Rotterdam City Stay, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place tucked away in Charlois. You know how it is with budget hotels, right? But this little spot on Walchersestraat actually surprised me in the best way. The neighborhood feels properly Dutch – none of that touristy gloss you get in the city center, just regular folks going about their business and some decent local cafes where you can grab a proper coffee without paying tourist prices.

What struck me right away was how quiet it gets at night, which honestly was a relief after some of the places I’ve stayed in central Rotterdam. The trams run pretty regularly during the day (you’ll hear them, but it’s not annoying), and there’s something oddly comforting about the sound. The rooms themselves are clean and functional – I mean, you’re not getting luxury here, but everything works and the beds are actually comfortable. The staff seems to genuinely care, which you don’t always get at this price point. They helped me figure out the best tram routes into the city center, and one of them even recommended this Indonesian place nearby that I never would have found otherwise.

Here’s the thing that really won me over – the location is actually pretty smart if you think about it. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Markthal or the cube houses, but you’re getting a real sense of how Rotterdam actually lives and breathes beyond the postcard spots. The tram ride into the heart of the city takes maybe fifteen minutes, and honestly, after a long day of walking around those crazy architectural landmarks Rotterdam is famous for, coming back to this quieter corner felt perfect. Plus, there’s decent parking if you’re driving, which is basically a miracle in Dutch cities these days. It’s not going to blow your mind, but sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well without breaking the bank – and that’s exactly what you get here.

  Clean and modern rooms, nice kitchen with all you need, large living room with a comfortable sofa and a large screen, comfortable beds, great communication with the owner.

  The place was comfortable with a lot of amenities provided! The bathroom was thoughtfully stocked with everything you might need. We enjoyed hanging out in the living room a lot- really comfortable couch and a nice TV!
  
  What could be improved: The weather was quite warm and the blanket was a bit on the thicker side, however there was a window that helped cool things down a bit. I believe the owner would have resolved it, but it was a short term concern at that time and we were still comfortable. I also spotted gum under the bed perhaps from a previous guest but everything else was perfectly clean!

  What could be improved: Nothing really. It's a loooong way to the top bedroom, but you can't have everything. Maybe slight odour from the loo drains, and a wobbly loo seat, but nothing that can't be sorted quickly.
