Hotel New York by WestCord
About
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel New York by WestCord feels like stepping into a piece of maritime history — and honestly, that's exactly what you're doing. This four-star hotel sits in the former Holland America Line headquarters, where thousands of passengers once began their journeys to America. The building's Art Nouveau architecture immediately catches your eye, with its distinctive tower and waterfront position making it one of Rotterdam's most recognizable landmarks. You know what strikes me most? It's how they've preserved that old-world grandeur while making everything feel completely modern and welcoming.
The Location Magic
The hotel's position on the Maas River is honestly spectacular — you're right on Koninginnenhoofd, which puts you at the heart of Rotterdam's maritime district. From here, you can walk to the city center in about fifteen minutes, but I actually love just staying in this area. The Wilhelminapier is right across the water with its impressive skyline, and the whole Kop van Zuid district has this fantastic mix of modern architecture and historic buildings. Couples particularly seem drawn to this spot (the hotel gets consistently high marks from romantic travelers), and I can see why — there's something magical about watching ships pass by your window.
Staying in History
Each room tells a story, literally — they've incorporated the building's emigration history into the design in subtle, thoughtful ways. The accommodations vary quite a bit since they're working with a historic structure, but that's part of the charm. Some rooms overlook the river (definitely worth requesting), while others face the city or courtyard. The furnishings blend maritime themes with contemporary comfort, and honestly, the beds are excellent. What I appreciate is how they've managed to fit modern amenities into spaces that were never designed for hotel guests — the bathrooms are well-appointed, and the Wi-Fi actually works reliably throughout the building.
Dining and Atmosphere
The ground-floor restaurant and café occupy what used to be the departure hall — imagine the stories these walls could tell. The space is absolutely stunning with its high ceilings and period details, and the food is solid contemporary European fare. I mean, you're not coming here for cutting-edge cuisine, but the breakfast spread is generous and the dinner menu hits all the right notes. The café stays busy throughout the day with both hotel guests and locals, which creates this nice, lived-in atmosphere. There's also a lovely terrace that overlooks the water — perfect for an evening drink while watching the sunset over the Maas.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances its historical significance with genuine hospitality. The staff clearly takes pride in the building's story, and they're genuinely helpful with local recommendations. The location consistently gets rave reviews because it offers something different from typical city center hotels — you're in a quieter, more atmospheric part of Rotterdam while still being connected to everything. Plus, there's ample parking available, which anyone who's driven in Rotterdam will tell you is no small thing. It's the kind of place that makes you feel like you've discovered something special, even though it's been welcoming guests for years.

Great location. Comfortable room. Friendly staff. Awesome history and decor
Exceptional
Lovely, full of history. Delicious breakfast in a unique setting. We were able to walk across the street to get on our ship. And it was very close to local transport into the city. I would stay here again.
A unique hotel in Rotterdam!
The hotel is characterful historical place, not to be compared with modern high rises around the building. Rooms are very nice, spacious, modern and the bed sleeps very well. Personnel helpful and friendly. When we will come back to Rotterdam, this will be our hotel again. You can take water taxis as a way of transport into the city!

Perfect location for joining a cruise
Location. Comfort
Lovely room. Lovely staff. Lovely position - we have stayed there before.
Breakfast was the only disappointing aspect. The coffee was undrinkable and the choice of foods was not brilliant.
