King Kong Hostel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into King Kong Hostel on Witte De Withstraat, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name — but this four-star property surprised me in the best way. The building sits right in the heart of Rotterdam‘s cultural district, and you can feel the energy of the city the moment you step inside. It’s got this modern, clean vibe that feels more like a boutique hotel than your typical hostel experience.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally surrounded by some of Rotterdam’s best galleries, cafes, and nightlife on Witte De Withstraat. I mean, couples consistently rate this location 9.2 out of 10, and after spending time here, I get it. You can walk to the Kunsthal in about ten minutes, and the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is just around the corner. The street itself has this artsy, slightly edgy character that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals actually care about, not just another tourist zone.
The Room Experience
My room was surprisingly spacious for what you’d expect in Rotterdam’s city center. The design is clean and functional — think Scandinavian minimalism but with a bit more personality. What struck me was how quiet it stayed despite being on such a lively street. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in hostels), and there’s enough storage space that you don’t feel like you’re living out of a suitcase. The bathrooms are modern and well-maintained, which honestly makes a huge difference when you’re exploring the city all day.
Neighborhood Vibes
This area really comes alive in the evenings — there’s a restaurant practically every few doors down, and the whole street has this creative energy that Rotterdam is known for. During the day, you’ll see art students sketching in cafes and gallery owners setting up new exhibitions. I found myself just wandering the neighborhood because there’s always something interesting happening. The fact that you can walk to Rotterdam Centraal in about fifteen minutes means you’re connected to the rest of the Netherlands, but honestly, you might not want to leave this part of the city.
Why Guests Love It
What sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both central and authentic. You’re not staying in some sterile hotel district — you’re actually in a neighborhood where things happen. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward spots that aren’t in every guidebook. Plus, the combination of hostel prices with four-star comfort means you get more bang for your buck than most places in Rotterdam. I’ve stayed in plenty of accommodations that claim to have great locations, but this one actually delivers on that promise. When you can step outside and immediately feel connected to what makes Rotterdam special, that’s when you know you’ve found the right place.

Reviews of King Kong Hostel
Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and would stay here again. – Dauren from Canada – September 7, 2025 (9/10)
It’s in downtown, everything in easy access.
What could be improved: It’s nosy, hard to sleep if you cannot sleep while there are loud music from the bars nearby.Wonderful – Rowan from United Kingdom – September 2, 2025 (9/10)
Great hostel in the heart of Rotterdam

What could be improved: The noiseGood places to stay – Nitish from India – July 2, 2025 (8/10)
Rooms with attach bathroom is well maintain and clean
What could be improved: Loud music of bars near by in the area and difficult to sleep in nightDiscover Rotterdam! – Mekuanint from Ethiopia – June 1, 2025 (8/10)
The receptions are very sociable and interactive. The location is centrally situated, making it convenient to access various places.
What could be improved: It is essential to offer larger and more secure lockers for customers. Without them, storing baggage in the reception area will not be safe.Modern hostel, great location, friendly staff! – Lola from Netherlands – May 25, 2025 (7/10)
Great location, friendly staff and modern setting. Beds where super silent which was a plus when sharing a room with others 😉
What could be improved: Although the location its great, its not so great if you actually want to sleep, as it is in the middle of a street full of bars and Clubs with loud music, so sleeping was not successful for me… but for only a night was ok!Amazing, especially for the price. I felt very safe, lovely staff, but slightly noisy at night. – Pini from Denmark – May 16, 2025 (8/10)
everything was wonderful, and the staff was lovely!! I was very pleased to find out they had women’s-only dorms, since im a young woman traveling alone. I felt very safe, with no worries while i was there!
What could be improved: mattress can be slightly uncomfortable for longer stays, but its not too bad. Beware that it can get noisy at night, from the street, and parties around, but just bring a pair of earplugs !!Wonderful – Larbi from Belgium – May 10, 2025 (9/10)
Great experience, nice and cool stuff 🤩 , i ❤️ the place ,the unique design and the great location 🥳
The playlist in the bar was amazing. I recommend 👌 👏
What could be improved: For a hostel, all was good 👍It was very good. Highly recommended. – Soumik from United Kingdom – May 5, 2025 (9/10)
Very close to the main happening area of the city. Also very close to the train station, shops, bars, restaurants and the red light area. Very close to all the tourist attractions.
What could be improved: May be to have some shelves next to the bunk beds, for e.g. person who are assigned to the upper beds has no access to any shelves where they can keep their phones or other small items. Also I strongly recommend to add small night lamps next to the bed so that if any individual want to read a book or to do something at night then they do not have to keep the main ceiling light on and disturb everyone's sleep.
