Herenhuis in het stadscentrum Overview

So I stumbled across Herenhuis in het stadscentrum during a weekend trip to Rotterdam, and honestly, it was one of those pleasant surprises you don’t expect from a three-star place. The building itself sits right on Spoorsingel, which – if you know Rotterdam at all – puts you in this interesting spot where you’re close enough to walk everywhere but far enough from the main tourist chaos to actually get some sleep. I mean, when I first walked up to the entrance, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from what looked like a converted historic house, but the moment you step inside, there’s this immediately welcoming vibe that feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s place than a typical hotel.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to preserve that authentic Dutch townhouse character while actually making it comfortable for modern travelers. The rooms aren’t huge – let’s be real about European hotel standards – but they’re thoughtfully laid out with these lovely period details that remind you you’re staying somewhere with actual history. The floors creak just enough to feel authentic without being annoying, and the windows are surprisingly good at keeping out street noise (which matters more than you’d think on Spoorsingel, especially during morning rush hour). I spent a fair bit of time just sitting by my window watching Rotterdam life unfold below, and you know what? That’s exactly the kind of experience you want in a city like this. The staff clearly knows their neighborhood too – they pointed me toward this fantastic little café about two blocks away that I never would have found on my own, and gave me the kind of walking directions that only come from people who actually live and work in the area.

The practical stuff works well enough that you don’t have to think about it, which honestly is what you want from a place like this. Check-in was straightforward, the WiFi actually functioned properly throughout my stay, and while there’s no fancy gym or spa situation, there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on doing the basics really well instead of trying to be everything to everyone. I’d definitely stay here again, particularly if I wanted to explore Rotterdam’s neighborhoods on foot rather than just hitting the major tourist spots. It’s got that 8.6 rating for good reason – not because it’s trying to compete with the luxury places downtown, but because it delivers exactly what it promises with a level of genuine hospitality that’s getting harder to find these days.

Reviews of Herenhuis in het stadscentrum

  • Very Good – Marija from Netherlands – July 14, 2025 (8/10)

The house was very beautiful and had nice atmosphere. Nice views, cozy terrace, great location, very clean.

What could be improved: The downstairs bedroom was humid and not very cozy.

Arranging to collect the keys was a bit difficult. Bringing cash deposit and returning it was a lot of hustle

  • A lovely, spacious house in a central, but peaceful, location. Why wouldn't you go. – Angus from United Kingdom – November 18, 2024 (10/10)

It is a lovely big, clean house, furnished with good taste. Katy, the host, was more than helpful and gave us lots of local tips and was timely in all communications. The location is perfect and less than five minutes on foot to the entrance of Rotterdam Central Station. The area has a nice tranquility about it, even though it is central, and amenities close by are fantastic with a supermarket, a nice restaurant and a beautiful small pub, all within a 60 second walk from the front door. This said, it was very quiet in the house and people in Rotterdam, in general, are very laid back so there is no danger of not getting a good night's sleep no matter what time you go to bed or wake up.

Like many traditional Dutch houses, the stairs are steep. Absolutely not an issue if you are able for stairs, but one to note if you have mobility restrictions.

  • We visited Rotterdam to do some cycling in Holland and found it to be a welcoming and safe city – Jonathan from United Kingdom – September 15, 2024 (10/10)

This property is in a fantastic location right next to the central railway station and has been decorated to a very high level. The host was incredible. So polite, very flexible, always friendly and very accommodating. We will definitely book again!

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Beautiful stay – Jorgia from United Kingdom – September 12, 2024 (10/10)

The house was spacious and had all of the cookware and comfortable beds we required. The host was very accommodating and communicated with us very well. I would definitely stay here again.

  • Exceptional – Nan from China – August 19, 2024 (10/10)

We had an amazing stay! The location is absolutely perfect, close to everything we wanted to see. The house was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. Katy, our host, was incredibly polite and helpful throughout our stay. Just a heads up, there's a €300 deposit that needs to be paid upfront, but we received it back promptly after checking out.

  • The owner of the property is a very dishonest person, I was told make an additional 500 euros for caution fee after maki – Samuel from Italy – September 5, 2024 (2/10)

I like the fact that property is close the train station and everything is accessible

What could be improved: The property has just one bathroom, that is very poor for a property with four rooms

  • Exceptional – Le from Belgium – August 26, 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: geen enkel opmerking!
