d’Ouwe Moer Apartment Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first heard about d’Ouwe Moer Apartment, the name made me chuckle (it’s cheeky Dutch slang, and locals will get why that’s amusing). But this four-star gem on Admiraliteitskade in the Kralingen-Crooswijk district turned out to be one of those discoveries that makes you feel like you’ve cracked some local code. Rotterdam isn’t exactly overflowing with cozy apartment-style accommodations that actually nail the hospitality thing, but this place – with its stellar 9.7 rating – genuinely delivers on that promise.

What struck me right away was how the location works in your favor without feeling touristy. You’re literally steps from the Maas River, and I mean literally – I could hear the gentle lapping of water from my window on quiet evenings. The Admiraliteitskade strip has this lovely residential vibe where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and cycling to work, but you’re still just a quick tram ride from Rotterdam Centraal or the buzzing city center. The apartment itself feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place than a typical hotel room. There’s actual kitchen space (not just a sad mini-fridge), and the furnishings have that comfortable, lived-in quality without being worn down. You know what I appreciated most? The little touches that show someone actually thought about what travelers need – proper lighting for reading, enough outlets near the bed, and blackout curtains that actually block light.

The Kralingen-Crooswijk area is honestly underrated. Sure, it’s not where most tourists end up, but that’s exactly why it works. You’ve got the Kralingse Bos park nearby if you want to escape the urban buzz, and the neighborhood has this authentic Dutch residential feel that you just can’t get staying near the main tourist drags. I found myself grabbing coffee at local cafés where I was often the only obvious foreigner, and the evening walks along the water became a daily ritual. The apartment stays surprisingly quiet despite being on a fairly active street – good windows make all the difference. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no fuss or lengthy explanations about amenities I could figure out myself. The only minor thing I’d mention is that parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving, but honestly, you probably don’t need a car here anyway. This place gets what travelers actually want: comfort, authenticity, and that feeling like you’re experiencing Rotterdam the way people who live there do, not just passing through it.

  • Exceptional – Kaye from Australia – May 24, 2025 (10/10)

A beautiful location and fabulous apartment. Everything was there for a very comfortable, relaxing stay. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Highly recommend.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Wonderful, luxury accommodation in a great location for exploring Rotterdam – beats any hotel! – Anina from United Kingdom – October 8, 2024 (10/10)

We didn't really know what to expect but we were blown away by the charming and beautifully appointed loft. The location was even better than we expected, with great restaurants and bars just down the street and a stunning view of a little dock with various high-end boats/yachts visible from the balcony terrace. The devil is in the details and this loft had it in spades! From the gorgeous toiletries, integrated sound system, beautiful art and all the kitchen equipment you could ever need, to the high-tech shower, hot-tub and super comfortable beds. (It's worth noting that the second bedroom has 2 single beds, if you are 2 couples, but it didn't bother us.)

What could be improved: The only 'super-minor' bit of feedback would be that larger bath towels would have been nice (but really not essential) It's also worth noting that the hot-tub needs to be booked as an 'extra' option, which is not clear on the Booking.com website, but is apparently listed as an option on Airbnb. (again, not essential)
