Boathotel Rotterdam Anna Overview
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about Boathotel Rotterdam Anna? It’s literally a floating hotel — and I mean that in the best possible way. Moored along the Nieuwe Maas river in Rotterdam, this three-star converted ship feels like something between a boutique hotel and a really cool houseboat your friend might own. The moment you step aboard, there’s this gentle rocking motion that honestly takes about ten minutes to get used to, but then it becomes oddly soothing. What makes this property truly distinctive is how it seamlessly blends maritime heritage with modern hospitality, creating an unforgettable first impression that sets it apart from conventional accommodations.
The Floating Experience
Living on water changes everything about your stay — the sounds, the views, even how you sleep. My room had these porthole-style windows that frame the river perfectly, and I actually found myself just watching boats drift by for way longer than I’d care to admit. The ship’s compact design means everything feels cozy rather than cramped, though you’ll want to pack light since storage space is pretty minimal. What really works here is how they’ve maintained the nautical character while making it genuinely comfortable for landlubbers. The gentle motion of the water creates a naturally soothing environment that many guests find therapeutic and deeply relaxing.
Location & Getting Around
The Feijenoord neighborhood isn’t exactly tourist central, but that’s actually part of the charm. You’re about a 15-minute walk to the city center, or there’s a water taxi that stops right nearby — which feels perfectly fitting given you’re staying on a boat. The area has this authentic, lived-in vibe that most visitors never see, with local cafes and the kind of Rotterdam residents who nod hello when you pass them on morning walks along the waterfront. This location offers genuine cultural immersion rather than typical tourist experiences.
Practical Considerations
Here’s what you should know: the onboard restaurant serves decent meals, but the real appeal is eating outside on deck when weather permits. Parking is available on land nearby, which feels slightly surreal when your hotel is floating ten meters away. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working somewhere this unique, and they’re quick to help with everything from local recommendations to explaining why the boat shifts slightly during high tide (totally normal, by the way). Guest amenities are thoughtfully designed for the floating environment.
Why Guests Love It
Couples especially seem drawn to this place — there’s something inherently romantic about falling asleep to the gentle lapping of water against the hull. The novelty factor is real, but it’s not just a gimmick; this is a genuinely well-run hotel that happens to float. You’ll sleep surprisingly well once you adjust to the subtle motion, and honestly, going back to a regular hotel afterward feels oddly static. It’s one of those experiences that makes Rotterdam feel more memorable than just another European city break. This unique accommodation creates lasting memories that guests cherish long after their departure.
Hotels in Rotterdam offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of the Netherlands’ most modern city, with easy access to bustling harbors, vibrant cultural scene, and renowned attractions like Euromast tower.

Wonderful host who met us to explain the uniqueness of staying on a house boat. He was also in touch throughout our stay when we had some minor problems. It was fun to experience a different accommodation type that can't be found many parts of the world. The beds were comfortable & clean.

Location was good.
Little airflow on a hot day. Having fans available would be wonderful as airflow was an issue on the 25C day we were there.Daniel from Germany (8/10)
