Hotel 171 Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel 171 on Nieuwe Binnenweg, you immediately get the sense this is a place that knows its neighborhood well. It’s one of those three-star spots that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — just solid, comfortable, and honestly pretty smart about what travelers actually need. The building fits right into the streetscape of Rotterdam, and you can tell from the moment you step inside that they’ve put thought into making the most of their space.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re genuinely in the thick of things without feeling overwhelmed by tourist crowds. Nieuwe Binnenweg is this great street that locals actually use, lined with cafes and shops that aren’t just there for visitors. You can walk to Rotterdam Centraal in about fifteen minutes, or catch a tram if you’re feeling lazy. The Witte de Withstraat, which is basically Rotterdam’s cultural strip, is just a few blocks away. Couples seem to really get this location — I mean, there’s something nice about being able to stroll to dinner and actually feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just passing through it.
The Room Experience
The rooms here are what I’d call thoughtfully compact. You’re not getting a massive space, but everything feels intentional — good lighting, decent storage, and a room layout that actually makes sense. The beds are comfortable enough that you’ll sleep well after a day of walking around the city. What struck me was how clean everything felt, not just surface-level clean but properly maintained. The windows let in good natural light, which honestly makes a bigger difference than you’d think when you’re staying in a city center location.
Breakfast & Practical Details
The breakfast setup is actually pretty clever — they do continental and vegetarian options, but they also offer breakfast to go, which is perfect if you want to grab something and eat it in one of the nearby parks. I appreciate when hotels recognize that not everyone wants to sit in a dining restaurant for an hour in the morning. The staff seems to understand Rotterdam well enough to give you decent recommendations, and they’re not pushy about it. There’s parking available, though honestly, you probably won’t need a car much once you’re settled in this area.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about Hotel 171 is that it delivers on the basics while being genuinely well-located. You’re not paying for amenities you won’t use, but you’re also not sacrificing comfort or convenience. The neighborhood feels authentic — you’ll see locals going about their daily routines, which gives you a better sense of what Rotterdam is actually like. For the price point, it’s hard to argue with the combination of location, cleanliness, and straightforward service. It’s the kind of place where you can focus on exploring the city instead of dealing with hotel hassles.
Best hotels in Rotterdam blend glass atriums, rooftop bars, and chef-led tastings of Indonesian rijsttafel.

I loved the electronic checking in and out. It was very quiet. I booked it during Rotterdam carnival and I didn’t hear any of the neighbours
What could be improved: No long mirrorsPerfect for short stays and great value if you book on time. – Lawrencia from Netherlands – July 27, 2025 (8/10)
I visit this place a lot due to its convenient location to the Erasmus hospital and city center. The rooms are very clean always.
What could be improved: Can be noisy on some days.Good enough for its purpose and value, close to the hospital. – Ioan-alexandru from Romania – July 24, 2025 (8/10)
It was very close to the hospital where I worked. It was clean and comfortable, for the most part.
What could be improved: The excessive street noise at night, poorly sound-proofed windows. The room did not have a wardrobe, so all my clothes had to stay on a small cupboard and a hang rail (with plenty of hangers however). The collaboration with the restaurant for the breakfast was a neat idea, however I started work at 08:00 mostly every day, meaning I had to skip on breakfast more often than not (the restaurant also opened at 8).Amazing – Esmee from Netherlands – July 5, 2025 (8/10)
It was really clean, and nice location
What could be improved: That the room was a big size and cleanVery Good – Majid from Germany – May 2, 2025 (8/10)
Cleanliness, easy check in and out, deposit refund on time

Good place to stay for one or two nights to explore the city – James from Netherlands – February 24, 2025 (8/10)
Good location to get Delfshaven and the centre. The breakfast provided by the nearby cafe was very tasty and good quality. The room was large enough. Kettle provided with the room but you need to collect tea and coffee from the ‘living room’
What could be improved: It was all goodHotel is very well situated for travelimg around city , nice room great shower with really hot water – Michael from United Kingdom – January 20, 2025 (8/10)
room was very good, bed very comfortable, tea and coffee available in reception but would have liked coffee or tea bags in room .very easy to check in/out
What could be improved: smell of drains in hallway near lift, we purchased a room air freshener to help.
