The James Rotterdam Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The James Rotterdam on Aert van Nesstraat, you immediately get that “this is exactly where I want to be” feeling. It’s one of those three-star places that punches way above its weight — honestly, the location alone makes it feel like you’ve struck gold. The building sits right in Rotterdam‘s Centrum district, and I mean really in the heart of things, not on some sketchy side street where hotels claim to be central but aren’t.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about staying here — you can walk to pretty much everything worth seeing in Rotterdam without breaking a sweat. The Markthal is literally a few minutes away, and if you’re into architecture (which, let’s be honest, is half the reason people come to Rotterdam), you’re surrounded by it. What really impressed me though is how couples seem to absolutely adore this spot — they’ve rated the location 9.6 out of 10, which is pretty remarkable when you think about it. You know what that tells me? It’s romantic enough for date nights but practical enough that you’re not constantly figuring out transportation.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and well-thought-out, nothing fancy but everything you actually need. What struck me was how they’ve managed to make a three-star space feel more polished than some four-star places I’ve been to. The beds are comfortable — and I’m picky about mattresses — and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The windows let in good natural light, which matters more than you’d think when you’re spending time getting ready to explore the city.
Practical Perks
One thing that sets this place apart is the private parking situation. If you’re driving in Rotterdam (which I actually recommend for day trips outside the city), having guaranteed parking at your hotel is huge. Most places in the center either don’t have it or charge ridiculous amounts for it. The staff seems to genuinely know the area too — they gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.7 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a really well-located, well-run hotel that gets the basics right and then some. For the price point, you’re getting incredible access to everything Rotterdam has to offer without paying premium rates for unnecessary frills. I mean, when couples are rating your location nearly perfect, and you’re managing to keep three-star prices in one of the most desirable parts of the city, you’re clearly doing something right. It’s the kind of place where you spend your time exploring Rotterdam instead of hanging around the hotel — which is exactly what you want.
Rotterdam’s apartments welcome families with riverside playgrounds, science museums, and easy zoo day trips.

Beds are very comfortable and rooms are quite spacious for two people. There is a nice 24h supermarket inside the hotel which has lots of the stuff you would need.
