Le Marin Hotel Rotterdam City – Handwritten Collection Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Le Marin Hotel Rotterdam City – Handwritten Collection? It’s tucked away in Delfshaven, which honestly feels like a completely different world from central Rotterdam. I mean, you’re staying in this historic harbor district where the old Dutch charm actually survived the WWII bombings – something you can’t say for most of the city center. The hotel itself sits on Henegouwerplein, and while that might sound intimidating to pronounce, it’s basically right where the old meets the new in the most interesting way possible.
The building has this understated elegance that I wasn’t expecting from a four-star place. It’s part of the Handwritten Collection, and you can tell they’ve put thought into making each property feel distinct rather than cookie-cutter corporate. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully modern – clean lines, quality materials, but not sterile. Actually, the bathrooms impressed me more than they probably should have (great water pressure, which you don’t always get in converted European buildings). What really works here is the location strategy. You’re about a 15-minute tram ride from Rotterdam Centraal, but honestly, that’s a feature not a bug. Delfshaven has this maritime museum quality to it, with the old harbor and windmill that makes for incredible evening walks. Plus, you’re practically next door to some fantastic local restaurants that tourists staying downtown never discover.
Here’s the thing though – and I wish someone had told me this beforehand – the area can feel a bit quiet if you’re expecting that urban buzz Rotterdam is known for. It’s peaceful, which I loved, but if you want to stumble out of your hotel into nightlife, you’ll need to plan ahead. The staff seemed genuinely local and knowledgeable about both the neighborhood and getting around the wider city. Check-in was smooth, and they actually gave me useful recommendations rather than just handing over a generic tourist map. The 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s solid, well-run, and offers something different from the glass-and-steel hotels near the Erasmus Bridge. I’d definitely stay again, especially since parking here is infinitely less stressful than downtown Rotterdam.

Very Good – Marcel from Germany – September 21, 2025 (8/10)
Just like the pictures
It was a very nice place to stay & very central & easy to get to anywhere. We would stay again,& apart from – Peter from United Kingdom – August 19, 2025 (8/10)
It was very clean & comfortable beds & lovely shower & great breakfast & very nice staff.
What could be improved: One room wasn’t big enough to use,so two had to share a room,we spoke to reception staff & we chose to hand back the key to the room.
We were advised they could have refunded us,had it been a direct booking with them, but because it was booked with Booking.com there was nothing they could do,and we could bring it their attention.Very Good – Christos from Greece – August 9, 2025 (8/10)
I loved the design and location. It was a 10 minute walk from Rotterdam central and a 20 minute walk from the city centre.
Great stay! – Bobby from Netherlands – August 5, 2025 (9/10)
Clean, nice looking and friendly staff
What could be improved: Everything was great, no bad stuffRather positive stay because of location but the Walls and Noise are annoying. – Arnes from Luxembourg – August 4, 2025 (7/10)
Clean and tidy. Comfortable bed and quiet location but close to everything.
What could be improved: Very thin walls you could hear other people from upstairs and next door speak and walk around in their room. Gets very loud at times.Very Good – Diane from Ireland – July 16, 2025 (8/10)
The location was just perfect. The rooms are well set and very comfy.
What could be improved: We asked two separate bed but, we got the double bed. What annoyed us was the parking which was included in our booking but when we arrived there was no availability and we had to pay it ourselves.
Second, the staff initially gave us the wrong direction to the second location of the hotel. When we called, we had to return back to the hotel because they could not guide us from where we were.Very nice, very friendly people and the location was a little bit ghetto and the rooms were luxurious for the price – Leian from Belgium – June 9, 2025 (9/10)
