I mean, couples aren’t giving this spot a 9.4 location rating for nothing — and I get why. You’re literally steps from the Oude Haven, which is Rotterdam’s old harbor turned into this buzzing area with cafes and weekend markets. The Maritime Museum is practically next door, and honestly, you can walk to most of the city’s main attractions without breaking a sweat. What I really appreciated was being able to stroll to the Markthal in about ten minutes, then wander back along the waterfront when the evening light hits just right.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this clean, maritime-inspired design that actually worked — not cheesy ship decorations, but thoughtful touches that reminded you of the harbor location. The windows were decent sized, and if you’re lucky enough to get a harbor-facing room, well, that’s a nice bonus. The beds were comfortable enough for a solid night’s sleep, and the bathroom was compact but well-designed. Storage space was adequate, though I wouldn’t call it generous — but honestly, for a city break, it’s perfectly fine.

Morning Fuel

The breakfast buffet surprised me in a good way — nothing fancy, but they had the essentials covered with some local touches thrown in. Fresh bread, decent coffee, and enough variety to get you going for a day of exploring Rotterdam’s architecture and museums. The breakfast area has this bright, airy feel that makes morning feel less rushed. I actually found myself lingering over coffee while watching the harbor activity outside, which isn’t something I usually do at hotels.

Look, this isn’t a pretentious property, and it doesn’t pretend to be — but that’s sort of the point. FLOATS delivers exactly what you want from a well-located city hotel: comfort, cleanliness, and a prime spot to explore from. The staff seemed genuinely helpful when I needed directions, and there’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on doing the basics really well rather than trying to be everything to everyone. For couples especially, having such easy access to Rotterdam’s romantic waterfront spots while staying somewhere that won’t break the budget — that’s a pretty sweet deal. The apartment-style layout with thoughtful amenities makes it an excellent choice for extended stays.

  Sleeping a few meters above the water was an amazing experience. With the beautiful architecture all around, the welcome drink on the terrace was a nice touch. The room was sufficiently large, and the bed was very comfortable.
  
  What could be improved: Since it's a boat hotel, you may occasionally hear noises from other rooms and the outside. (On Friday night, when we were there, there was a lot of partying in the surrounding streets.)

  Location is perfect. It's a unique stay and perfect for a couple of nights. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind, especially in the restaurant.
