Boathotel Rotterdam Anna
About
First Impressions
You know what caught me off guard about Boathotel Rotterdam Anna? It's actually a floating hotel — and I mean that literally. This three-star gem sits moored along the Nieuwe Maas river in the Feijenoord district, and honestly, the novelty of sleeping on water never gets old. The moment you step aboard, there's this gentle rocking motion that's surprisingly soothing, though it might take a night or two to get your sea legs if you're not used to it.
Location & Neighborhood
The location is pretty brilliant, especially if you're traveling as a couple — which makes sense since couples consistently rate this place highly for romantic getaways. You're positioned right on the water with unobstructed views of Rotterdam's impressive skyline, and the city center is just a short walk or tram ride away. The Feijenoord area itself is quieter than the bustling city center, but that actually works in your favor when you want to escape the crowds. Plus, being on the water means you get these amazing sunset views that you simply can't find at traditional hotels.
The Floating Experience
Living on a boat for a few days is genuinely different from your typical hotel stay. The cabins — well, they're essentially hotel rooms but with that maritime charm — are compact but thoughtfully designed. Don't expect massive spaces, but everything you need is there, and the portholes instead of regular windows add character. The gentle movement of the water becomes oddly relaxing, though I'd recommend packing light motion sickness remedies if you're particularly sensitive. What really impressed me was how well-maintained everything felt despite the unique challenges of operating a floating hotel.
Practical Considerations
Here's what you should actually know before booking: the boat's layout means some rooms are better than others, so it's worth requesting a riverside cabin for the best views. The Wi-Fi works fine, and the heating system keeps things comfortable even during Rotterdam's chilly months. Parking can be a bit tricky since you're essentially docking at a marina, but there are options nearby if you're driving. The staff genuinely knows their stuff about both the boat operations and Rotterdam itself — they're not just hotel employees, they're sort of maritime hosts who understand the unique aspects of waterfront hospitality.
Why Guests Love It
The Boathotel Rotterdam Anna delivers something you can't get anywhere else in the city — that combination of urban accessibility with a completely unique accommodation experience. Recent guests consistently praise the location, and it's easy to see why when you're sipping coffee on deck watching the city wake up across the water. It's not trying to be upscale or fancy, but it nails the fundamentals while offering something genuinely memorable. For couples especially, there's something undeniably romantic about falling asleep to the gentle lapping of water against the hull, all while being minutes away from one of Europe's most dynamic port cities.

Wonderful host who met us to explain the uniqueness of staying on a house boat. He was also in touch throughout our stay when we had some minor problems. It was fun to experience a different accommodation type that can't be found many parts of the world. The beds were comfortable & clean.
Location was good. Little airflow on a hot day. Having fans available would be wonderful as airflow was an issue on the 25C day we were there.
The boat is really beautiful and located centrally in the city The rooms on board are great and the kitchen is well equipped.
