Bastion Hotel Rotterdam Alexander
About
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Bastion Hotel Rotterdam Alexander, I'll be honest — it's not the flashiest place you'll see in Rotterdam. But you know what? Sometimes that's exactly what you want. This four-star property sits quietly on Hoofdweg in the Prins Alexander district, and there's something refreshingly straightforward about it. The building has that clean, modern Dutch aesthetic without trying too hard to impress, and the parking situation is actually fantastic — free private spots right at the hotel, which anyone who's driven in Rotterdam will tell you is worth its weight in gold.
The Neighborhood Reality
Look, Prins Alexander isn't the historic center with all the tourist spots, but that's kind of the point. You're about 15 minutes from the city center by car or tram, which means you get the best of both worlds — easy access to Rotterdam's attractions without the downtown noise and chaos. The area feels genuinely residential, with local shops and cafes that tourists rarely stumble upon. I actually enjoyed the evening walks around the neighborhood, and you'll find some surprisingly good Indonesian and Turkish restaurants within walking distance that locals frequent.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what I expected from a solid four-star Dutch hotel — clean lines, functional design, and everything you actually need without unnecessary frills. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I mean, I slept like a rock), and the bathroom was spotless with a decent shower. What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets, and blackout curtains that actually work. The air conditioning kept things comfortable during my summer visit, and honestly, the whole space just felt... reliable.
Breakfast and Daily Rhythms
The breakfast buffet here is where this place really shows its Dutch sensibilities — it's comprehensive without being overwhelming. Fresh bread, local cheeses, proper coffee, and enough variety to keep you happy whether you're rushing out for business or taking your time on vacation. I noticed quite a few repeat guests during my stay (apparently there are more regulars here than at most hotels), and watching the morning routine, I could see why. The restaurant area has this calm, unhurried atmosphere that makes starting your day feel less frantic than it does at busier properties.
Why Guests Love It
Here's what I think really works about this place — it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting the basics right, from check-in efficiency to keeping common areas spotless. Couples particularly seem drawn to the place, probably because it offers that sweet spot of comfort and privacy without breaking the bank. You're not paying for marble lobbies or celebrity chef restaurants, but you're getting solid value and a genuinely restful stay. Sometimes that's exactly what you need, especially when Rotterdam itself provides all the excitement you're looking for.

Rooms
Very helpful staff, comfortable bed + room
It seems that this hotel is a bit underrated. It is located far from the city centre, but it has its own parking which is quite rare. The room is quite spacious and comfortable for a short stay.
the room was bright and clean, bed was ok but the mattress to soft for me, but i guess everyone is different, bar staff were friendly and a fresh omelet for breakfast was nice touch,
Everything ok, in the average
Breakfast was good and started at 6am which is also good
Clean, all minium requirements good. Very safe.
The property is in perfect location for me according to my personal needs, I don’t think this is a good option for city tours.
