TamTam Studio Overview

You know what caught me off guard about TamTam Studio? The name made me expect some artsy, maybe slightly chaotic place, but when I walked into this three-star spot on Gaffelstraat, it actually felt surprisingly put-together. I mean, it’s definitely got character – the kind of place where the lobby doubles as a mini gallery space – but there’s this underlying sense that someone really thought through how travelers actually want to live for a few days.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in actual Rotterdam rather than tourist Rotterdam. Gaffelstraat isn’t one of those streets everyone talks about, but that’s exactly why I liked it. You’re a five-minute walk from the Markthal (and trust me, you’ll end up there for coffee at least twice), but you’re also surrounded by the kind of local cafés and small shops that make you feel like you’ve discovered something. The street itself is pretty quiet – I stayed there during a busy week in spring and never had issues with noise, even though my room faced the front. There’s street parking if you’re driving, though honestly, you won’t need a car once you’re settled in.

What really won me over was how the place handles the details that matter. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Rotterdam, not some sprawling resort – but everything feels intentional. Good lighting (finally, a hotel that understands people need to actually see things), decent water pressure, and – this might sound small but it’s not – really solid wifi throughout the building. The breakfast setup is more continental than elaborate, but they source from local spots, so you’re getting proper Dutch cheese and bread that doesn’t taste like it came from a truck. Check-in was smooth too; the staff clearly knows the neighborhood well and gave me better restaurant recommendations than any guidebook I’d read. With an 8.9 rating, you can tell other people have figured out what makes this place work – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. If you want to stay somewhere that feels connected to the city rather than floating above it, TamTam Studio gets it right.

  Very clean and well-maintained place. The location is great — there’s a supermarket nearby which is super convenient. The host was friendly and responsive throughout the stay.
  
  What could be improved: Take note that there’s no stove or washing machine provided, so cooking and doing laundry on-site isn’t possible. The nearest dobi (laundry shop) is also not very close. Ideal for short stays, but less convenient if you’re planning a longer trip.

  TamTam Studio is perfectly located in a pleasant and quiet neighborhood, close to the city center and public transport stops.
  The host, Tam, is very kind and friendly, always available and ready to help with any requests.
  The apartment is quite spacious and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. The quality of the towels and bed linen is excellent, and the bed is very comfortable.
  The kitchen is well-equipped, with a microwave, kettle, coffee machine, and dishwasher. The bathroom is also great – spacious and comfortable to use.
  We’ll be happy to stay at TamTam Studio again on our next visit to Rotterdam!
