Mr.Lewis Rotterdam Overview

I’ll be honest, when I first walked up to Mr.Lewis Rotterdam on Heemraadssingel, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The building has this sort of understated charm – it’s not trying to wow you with a massive lobby or anything, but there’s something refreshingly authentic about the whole setup. You’re right in Delfshaven, which honestly feels like a completely different world from the city center, and I mean that in the best way possible.

The thing about this three-star place is that it gets the fundamentals right without any pretense. The rooms are clean and comfortable, nothing fancy, but you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want. I stayed in one of the street-facing rooms and actually enjoyed the gentle hum of Rotterdam life – it’s not crazy busy here like some areas, just the occasional tram and people going about their day. The staff genuinely seems to care, which you can tell immediately when you check in. They’ll chat with you about the neighborhood (definitely ask them about the historic harbor area – it’s literally a five-minute walk and most tourists miss it completely).

What really struck me about staying here is how you get this authentic slice of Rotterdam living. Delfshaven has this incredible maritime history that you can still feel walking around – there’s the old church where the Pilgrims prayed before heading to America, and these charming canals that remind you this city has layers beyond the modern architecture downtown. From Mr.Lewis, you can walk to the historic windmill De Distilleerketel in about ten minutes, and honestly, most guidebooks barely mention it. The hotel itself sits on a tree-lined street that feels residential but isn’t too quiet – there’s a great little café called Dudok just around the corner where locals actually hang out, not just tourists. I grabbed coffee there every morning and started recognizing the regulars by day three. The tram connection is solid too – line 8 gets you to Central Station in about fifteen minutes, so you’re never really stuck out here, but you also don’t have to deal with all the city center chaos when you want to decompress. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving, but the hotel staff knows the neighborhood parking situation and will point you in the right direction.

Reviews of Mr.Lewis Rotterdam

  • Cozy hideaway for a short stay with minimal social interaction. – Josha from Belgium – September 25, 2025 (9/10)

Cozy room, lovely location at the moat. Outside of the center but accesible with a half-hour walk.
The rooms were clean with good amount of privacy and utilities. Checking in and out with a reservation is very quick and easy. Perfect for introverts who don't need a lot.

What could be improved: In the small room where I stayed there is no bedside table so relaxing with a drink or snack becomes difficult. You can sit at the table where the tea and coffee are but space is limited and you cannot recline there.

  • Nice location, clean room, easy check inn – Hanna from Netherlands – September 2, 2025 (9/10)

    Big and light room

  • Great value for money, quiet and comfortable – Wendy from United States – August 14, 2025 (9/10)

Clean, spacious and quiet. Very comfortable bed.

What could be improved: Steep staircase. Needs hair conditioner and body lotion (only shampoo and body wash available). These are minor issues obviously.,

Very nice place to stay! Beautiful and clean room. The beds are nice and the service is good. It is a self service hotel, but they send you all the information on forehand. They react very fast and are really friendly. We even got a very nice room upgrade! We will came back for sure! 🙂

    What could be improved: –

  • Very Good – Esmé from Netherlands – June 28, 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Couldn’t close the window all the way, wasn’t to big of a problem (and probably could have called for it)

  • Very Good – Tadevosyan from Armenia – June 26, 2025 (8/10)

    Cleaning and comfort

  • Nice place – Sam from Belgium – May 25, 2025 (8/10)

    Nice location, comfy bed.
Everything you need is there. Smooth check in/out.

What could be improved: Upstairs guest/neighbour was stepping too hard on the floor. We could hear his/her moves.

  • Beautiful space in beautiful area – Jocelyne from Canada – April 16, 2025 (8/10)

Lovely room with great washroom.Beautiful magnolia in back yard.

What could be improved: No access to back yard, Voice communication only, no humans, sad really. No micro eave in kitchen.

4- Coffee machine in the room is terrible, even they give you capsule of coffee, machine never works
5- Room number 1 is totally visible from outside, don't book that room, you need to close curtains all the time.
6- Staff helps through telecom, voice is not clear enough to hear.
