So I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Leonardo Hotel Rotterdam Savoy, I wasn’t expecting much from a chain hotel. But you know what? This place actually surprised me. It’s right there on Hoogstraat, which puts you smack in the middle of Rotterdam‘s buzzing city center, and I mean you can literally walk to the Markthal in about three minutes. The building itself has this interesting mix going on – there’s definitely some classic Dutch architecture happening on the outside, but inside they’ve gone full modern without making it feel sterile.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place – clean, comfortable beds that don’t leave you with a sore back, and surprisingly good blackout curtains (trust me, this matters when those summer nights stretch until 10 PM). What I really appreciated was the noise situation – even though you’re literally in the heart of the city, the windows do a decent job of keeping the street sounds manageable. I stayed on the fourth floor and could barely hear the trams rumbling by. The shower pressure was actually impressive too, which honestly makes or breaks a hotel stay for me. One small thing though – the air conditioning can be a bit temperamental, so don’t be afraid to call the front desk if it’s acting up.

Here’s what really sold me on this place: the staff actually knows Rotterdam. I asked the guy at reception about where to grab a proper Dutch breakfast that wasn’t touristy, and he pointed me toward this little café on Witte de Withstraat that I never would have found otherwise. The hotel’s breakfast spread is decent – nothing revolutionary, but they do have proper Dutch cheese and the coffee doesn’t taste like it came from a vending machine. Location-wise, you’re walking distance from pretty much everything that matters – the Erasmus Bridge is a pleasant ten-minute stroll, the Cube Houses are right around the corner, and if you’re into the whole modern architecture thing (which, let’s face it, is half the reason people come to Rotterdam), you’re perfectly positioned. The area gets pretty lively on weekend nights, but in a good way – lots of restaurants and bars within stumbling distance. Just keep in mind that parking around there can be a nightmare, so if you’re driving, definitely book a spot through the hotel ahead of time.

  Room had everything we needed, the fridge was a bonus (we bought milk to make instant coffee). The shower was wonderful, perhaps the best I've known. Didn't have to get on our knees to use the safe! Great bed and plenty of space to put cases.
