Le Marin Hotel Rotterdam City – Handwritten Collection
About
First Impressions
Le Marin Hotel Rotterdam City – Handwritten Collection sits in the historic Delfshaven district, and honestly, the location caught me off guard in the best way possible. This four-star property feels like Rotterdam's best-kept secret — tucked away from the main tourist crowds but still incredibly well-connected to everything you'd want to see. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn't scream for attention, which I actually appreciated after walking through some of the flashier hotel lobbies in Rotterdam.
The Delfshaven Advantage
You know what's brilliant about staying here? Delfshaven is where Rotterdam gets genuinely interesting. I mean, this is the historic harbor where the Pilgrims departed for America, and you can still feel that maritime history in the cobblestone streets and old warehouses. The hotel's location means you're walking distance from the Oude Kerk and those charming canal-side cafés, but you can also hop on public transport and be in the modern city center within fifteen minutes. Couples seem to get this balance — they've rated the location 8.0, and I can see why.
The Room Experience
My room had this clean, contemporary design that felt fresh without being sterile. The Handwritten Collection brand shows in the details — there's thoughtful touches like locally-sourced amenities and artwork that actually connects to Rotterdam's culture. The beds are properly comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you're not bumping elbows with your travel companion. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing — Delfshaven can get lively in the evenings, but inside it was perfectly quiet.
Breakfast Worth Waking Up For
The breakfast setup here is honestly impressive for a four-star property. They've got continental options, but also proper vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices that don't feel like afterthoughts. The buffet spreads across several stations, and I noticed they source quite a bit locally — the cheese selection alone had me coming back for seconds. It's served in this bright space that overlooks the neighborhood, so you get to watch Delfshaven wake up while you're planning your day.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it gives you authentic Rotterdam without the tourist trap feeling. The staff actually knows the neighborhood — they'll point you toward that little Indonesian restaurant around the corner or tell you which tram gets you to the Markthal fastest. The 7.8 rating reflects what I experienced: solid comfort, genuine local character, and that rare feeling that you've discovered something special. It's not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it delivers exactly what thoughtful travelers want — a great base for exploring Rotterdam that feels like part of the city's story rather than separate from it.

Very Good
Just like the pictures
It was a very nice place to stay & very central & easy to get to anywhere. We would stay again,& apart from
It was very clean & comfortable beds & lovely shower & great breakfast & very nice staff.
One room wasn’t big enough to use,so two had to share a room,we spoke to reception staff & we chose to hand back the key to the room. We were advised they could have refunded us,had it been a direct booking with them, but because it was booked with Booking.com there was nothing they could do,and we could bring it their attention.
Very Good
I loved the design and location. It was a 10 minute walk from Rotterdam central and a 20 minute walk from the city centre.
Great stay!
Clean, nice looking and friendly staff
Everything was great, no bad stuff
Rather positive stay because of location but the Walls and Noise are annoying.
Clean and tidy. Comfortable bed and quiet location but close to everything.
Very thin walls you could hear other people from upstairs and next door speak and walk around in their room. Gets very loud at times.
Very Good
The location was just perfect. The rooms are well set and very comfy.
We asked two separate bed but, we got the double bed. What annoyed us was the parking which was included in our booking but when we arrived there was no availability and we had to pay it ourselves. Second, the staff initially gave us the wrong direction to the second location of the hotel. When we called, we had to return back to the hotel because they could not guide us from where we were.
Very nice, very friendly people and the location was a little bit ghetto and the rooms were luxurious for the price
Cute building and the inside of the rooms look like 5 stars room
