I mean, the concept sounds gimmicky at first – sleeping on a boat in the middle of a city – but honestly, it’s one of those experiences that just works. The location on Wijnkade puts you right in Rotterdam‘s heart, and I actually loved the gentle rocking motion at night (though fair warning, it takes about twenty minutes to get your sea legs when you first step aboard).

This is what I’d call a unique boutique hotel – they don’t bother with official star ratings because, really, how do you rate something this different? The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious, with these massive windows that look out over the water. I spent way too much time just watching the light change on the Nieuwe Maas throughout the day. The design is modern but not sterile – lots of wood and nautical touches that feel authentic rather than theme-park cheesy. What really impressed me was the attention to practical details: the kitchenette actually has everything you need (I made coffee every morning while watching the early commuter boats), and the Wi-Fi is solid, which matters when you’re working remotely.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re literally floating in the middle of Rotterdam’s buzz, but it feels oddly peaceful. The Centrum district is right there, so you can walk to the Markthal in maybe ten minutes, but when you come back to your floating apartment, there’s this immediate sense of escape. I loved that contrast. The check-in was smooth (they meet you right at the boat), and parking… well, you’ll want to use one of the nearby garages rather than street hunting – trust me on that one. The staff really knows the area too, so ask them about the best walking routes to avoid the construction zones that seem to constantly shift around Rotterdam. One small note: if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe bring earplugs – not because of the water, but because the occasional late-night reveler on the quay can get a bit loud. Still, I’d absolutely stay here again. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re having a proper adventure rather than just another hotel night.

  Monique is the best host, very welcoming and easy communication. We booked both cabins on the boat for a friends weekend. The location is perfect, directly in the city center of Rotterdam, you can walk to the nearest grocery shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. There is watertaxi stand just on the opposite of the boat. 2 bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and the bigger cabin has a spacious living room. To reach the bathroom of one of the cabins is a little challenge as you need to climb down to reach it but it is manageable. We loved sitting outside on the terrace with a coffee or a drink and having the skyline around us. The houseboat is definitely recommended. Thank you very much again for everything Monique!!

  Great position, very close to market hall and a lot of pubs! Kitchen is fully equipped with anything you would need. All the facilities on the boat were working perfectly, you have a really nice terrace, and the host is very nice!
