Hotel Bazar Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Bazar on Witte de Withstraat feels like stepping into someone’s eclectic travel journal come to life. This two-star gem sits right in the heart of Rotterdam‘s cultural district, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has this wonderfully quirky Middle Eastern and North African vibe that immediately sets it apart from your typical Dutch hotel — I mean, you’re not going to find another place quite like this in the city center.
The Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally surrounded by some of Rotterdam’s best galleries, cafes, and shops along Witte de Withstraat. The Kunsthal and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen are just a short walk away, and the main shopping streets are right at your doorstep. Couples absolutely love this spot — they’ve rated the location 9.5 out of 10, and after spending time here, I totally get why. Everything you want to see and do is within walking distance, which saves you both time and money on transport.
Your Room
The rooms here are… well, they’re compact but thoughtfully designed with that same exotic theme running throughout. Each room has its own personality — some feature Moroccan-inspired textiles, others lean more toward Turkish influences. Don’t expect massive spaces (this is a two-star property after all), but what you get is clean, comfortable, and genuinely characterful. The beds are surprisingly good, and the bathrooms, while small, are perfectly functional with decent water pressure.
The Food Experience
Here’s where Hotel Bazar really shines — the ground floor restaurant is actually a destination in its own right. The Middle Eastern and North African cuisine here is genuinely excellent, and locals eat here regularly, which tells you everything you need to know about the quality. Breakfast is halal and offers a nice mix of Dutch staples alongside more exotic options like fresh flatbreads and Mediterranean spreads. I’ve had dinner here twice, and both times the flavors were spot-on — the lamb tagine is particularly good if you’re feeling adventurous.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most about this place is how many people come back — there are way more repeat guests here than at most other properties in Rotterdam. I think it’s because Hotel Bazar offers something you can’t get elsewhere: authentic character without pretension, plus that unbeatable location. Sure, it’s not fancy, but it’s genuine and welcoming in a way that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. The staff actually seem to care about your experience, and in a city where accommodation can feel pretty sterile, that personal touch makes all the difference. If you want to be in the thick of things culturally and don’t need five-star amenities, this place delivers exactly what it promises.

Reviews of Hotel Bazar
Wonderful – Carin from South Africa – September 21, 2025 (9/10)
Walking distance from central station and several interesting spots
Really nice hotel, love the theme bed was very comfortable – Luca from Germany – September 4, 2025 (8/10)
The giant bathtub in the safari room was for sure an eyecatcher and very comfortably fit 2 people, the room was very clean, spacious and very comfortable . I would definetly come again and visit another room
What could be improved: The windows where very old and I’ve never seen this type of window, every window had a different opening mechanism and I was kinda scared at first to open them cause the glass panes seemed so thin I was worried I might break them easily
We didn’t really see at first how the bedframe was constructed with a post along the top part because it was covered in pillows dropping on the bed without knowing this could hurt 😆Wonderful – Gabriele from Lithuania – September 1, 2025 (9/10)
Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and spacious bed, toiletries. Delicious big breakfast for only 11euros.
What could be improved: Could have hairdryer and shower curtain in the bathroom, because water leaks on the ground. Also the windows do not seem to open for some air circulation.Wonderful – Aviad from Germany – August 22, 2025 (9/10)
A nice spacious room, great location, helpful staff at the desk.
Comfortable and convenient – Sue from United States – August 21, 2025 (9/10)
Appreciated that we were able to get into our room 10 minutes before checkin time. Appreciated the elevator. Did not take advantage of the breakfast deal. Exotic/bazaar decor was fine.
What could be improved: Noise from street and hotel restaurant was significant until midnight or later (Friday night) even on 3rd floor. But we were aware of this in advance from other reviews and slept well anyway.Wonderful – Louis from United Kingdom – August 16, 2025 (9/10)
It was in a great location. Lots of good restaurants around and close to the metro. Good staff at reception
Excellent stay in central Rotterdam – Shane from United Kingdom – August 3, 2025 (8/10)
Very central location, though no noise issues.
What could be improved: All good.Quiet clean room, very good location, restaurant was excellent. – Meta from Netherlands – July 29, 2025 (8/10)
Location great, close to the Eye hospital where I had to be early in the morning.
Hotel Bazar is a wonderful introduction to Rotterdam and far beyond its official 2 star rating – Suzanne from United Kingdom – July 23, 2025 (9/10)
Liked : the size and decor of the room (306 decorated in 'Ghana' style) the ease of access (only 1 step in the room and otherwise level access); the TV and free wifi which both worked very well ; the helpfulness and friendliness of all the staff (reception/cleaners/restaurant staff) ; the location which was very central, about 5 minutes walk from the nearest public transport station (Beurs) ; the restaurant which provided a good breakfast and meals at other times of day, all at reasonable prices and with a bonus 10% discount for hotel guests. The restaurant appeared to be well used by local people which made us feel (at least temporarily) part of the community rather than just a tourist.
What could be improved: Would have liked to have a kettle and cups in the room so that we could make a hot drink, but that's the only thing we would have changed.Very Good – Peter from United Kingdom – July 3, 2025 (8/10)
Lively location
What could be improved: Airton could be quieter
