Hostel ROOM Rotterdam Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Hostel ROOM Rotterdam? The name is honestly misleading – this feels way more like a boutique hotel than any hostel I’ve ever stayed in. I mean, when you’re walking down Van Vollenhovenstraat in the heart of Rotterdam’s Centrum district, you might actually walk right past it because the exterior is so understated and cool.

The whole place has this industrial-chic thing going on that really works with Rotterdam‘s post-war architectural vibe. Inside, they’ve done something clever with the space – it’s got these clean lines and concrete elements, but somehow it doesn’t feel cold or sterile. The rooms are surprisingly spacious (which, if you’ve stayed in European city centers before, you’ll appreciate), and there’s this attention to detail that you don’t usually get at hostel prices. The beds are actually comfortable – like, properly comfortable, not just “well, it’s fine for one night” comfortable. And the bathrooms? Clean, modern, good water pressure. Sometimes it’s the simple things, right?

What I really love about the location is that you’re genuinely in the thick of things without being on some touristy strip. You can walk to the Markthal in about ten minutes, and the Erasmus Bridge is close enough that you’ll probably end up crossing it daily just because it’s there. But here’s the thing locals know – that whole area around Van Vollenhovenstraat has some fantastic little cafes and shops that most visitors miss because they’re busy hitting the obvious spots. There’s this great coffee place literally around the corner, and honestly, the breakfast situation in the neighborhood is solid. The staff at ROOM actually seem to know the area well, which is refreshing – they’ll point you toward places that aren’t just the standard tourist recommendations. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of the city (it’s Rotterdam center, after all), but public transport connections are excellent, and if you’re exploring the Netherlands by train, you’re perfectly positioned. I stayed there during a pretty busy period and was surprised by how quiet it was at night – the street doesn’t get the late-night foot traffic you might expect. The whole experience just feels more grown-up and thoughtful than what you’d typically associate with hostel accommodations, which explains that solid 8.4 rating it’s got.

Reviews of Hostel ROOM Rotterdam

  • Good value for money, recommended! – Ooi from Malaysia – September 15, 2025 (8/10)

Location, separate toilet for female, well equipped kitchen

What could be improved: Did booking for 2 pax, would be great if they could consider putting us in the same room.

  • A night in a double room – Deyan from Bulgaria – August 11, 2025 (9/10)

We stayed in a double room with private batchroom. Not big, but sufficient. Walking distance from the central parts of the city. Breakfast was pretty basic, but enough.

  • Very Good – David from United Kingdom – August 2, 2025 (8/10)

Good location with a nearby supermarket, guest kitchen, room to keep my bike inside, friendly staff and the bed already made up.

  • Just experience it – Cynthia from Netherlands – July 22, 2025 (9/10)

I mean, just everything. Super friendly staff, loved the ambiance, I stayed in one of the pods or whatever they called. Looked great. At day one I couldn't sleep in one of the bottom beds because they were all taken, but when I saw an empty bed the next day I asked to switch and they were like, yeah ofcourse. They have great activities in and around the hostel. They have a really nice system for the kitchen, so it just kinda feels like home. The location is wonderful. It's not in the middle of the busy city, but near the supermarket, metro, and tram station. There is a lovely park and a route next to the canal. I don't know… can not describe it in words. You have to experience it to understand.

What could be improved: That I need to save money and I could not stay longer and enjoy your breakfast service and attend trips. Even though you guys can give 15% off.

  • Staff really friendly – Jennifer from United Kingdom – July 15, 2025 (8/10)

Really friendly staff, great value. Loved the cafe area and seating outside

What could be improved: I had a top bunk .. would be good to have the option to guarantee a low bunk

  • Nice staff – Isadora from Australia – July 8, 2025 (9/10)

    Kind staff

What could be improved: Quite old, but very comfortable

  • Great price for short stay. – Muhamad from United Kingdom – July 6, 2025 (9/10)

The room and bathroom were cleaned. After I checked out, I had a coffee and there is a plenty of sit or space that I could sit and enjoy my hot drinks, even they have a space outside of the their building with tables and chairs to sit for smoking. The location near to Euromast tower, Erasmus bridge and Markthal shopping mall for walking.

What could be improved: There is no lift to go to my room on second floor but that’s not a big deal.

  • Wonderful – Maija from Finland – June 22, 2025 (9/10)

Good value for the price, clean and enough privacy

What could be improved: It was kind of hot

  • A great Rotterdam hostel – Francesco from Italy – May 29, 2025 (9/10)

I was stayed in the DROOM private room for a business trip. The room was lovely. We had all we needed. There were large and clean bathrooms and toilets on every floor. The communal living room was really cozy. Meals were cheap and good. Staff was friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: Evening activities were not very well advertised or differed from the ones advertised. The room was a tiny bit smaller than we expected.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed it – Jack from United Kingdom – May 28, 2025 (8/10)

    Location, price, facilities

What could be improved: Rooms way too hot
