FD Hotels Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to FD Hotels on Witte de Withstraat, I almost missed it entirely. It’s tucked into this narrow street in the heart of Rotterdam‘s cultural district, and from the outside, it looks more like someone’s really cool apartment building than a hotel. But that’s actually the whole point, and once you get it, you really get it.
This is what I’d call a unique boutique spot that doesn’t bother with official star ratings because, honestly, how do you even categorize a place like this? The rooms are small – I mean genuinely compact, so don’t come expecting to spread out your entire wardrobe – but everything is designed with this minimalist precision that makes the space feel intentional rather than cramped. My room had this amazing floor-to-ceiling window that looked right out onto the street action, and you know what? The noise wasn’t bad at all, even though you’re literally above one of Rotterdam’s busiest nightlife strips. The soundproofing is better than you’d expect.
What really got me was how the staff just… knew things. Not in that overly rehearsed concierge way, but like actual locals who happen to work there. When I asked about dinner, the guy at the front desk didn’t hand me a tourist pamphlet – he told me to skip the obvious spots on Witte de Withstraat (even though there are some solid options) and walk two blocks to this Indonesian place that doesn’t even have English menus. He was right, obviously. The location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of Rotterdam’s art scene without staying in some corporate tower. You’re a five-minute walk from Museum Boijmans, the galleries are literally on your doorstep, and the Markthal is close enough that you can grab proper groceries if you want to use the little kitchenette setup they have in some rooms.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t for everyone. If you need a gym, room service, or someone to carry your bags, look elsewhere. FD Hotels feels more like crashing at a very stylish friend’s place, assuming your friend has impeccable taste and knows how to stock a coffee machine properly. The breakfast situation is minimal but decent, and check-in can be a bit informal (I waited maybe ten minutes while they sorted out keys), but somehow that all adds to the charm rather than detracting from it. I stayed there in November when Rotterdam gets properly gray and drizzly, and there was something really satisfying about coming back to this cozy, design-forward space after wandering around the city all day. Plus, and this matters – it’s actually affordable for what you get, especially considering you’re staying right in the center of everything that makes Rotterdam interesting in the first place.
Hotels in Rotterdam offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of the Netherlands’ most modern city, with easy access to bustling harbors, vibrant cultural scene, and renowned attractions like Euromast tower.

Reviews of FD Hotels
Best hot shower – Anyplaceadventures from Australia – September 3, 2025 (8/10)
Friendly staff, great hot showers. Very easy walk to transport and dining.
Good location. Clean and very helpful staff. – Mayra from United Kingdom – August 26, 2025 (7/10)
Staff was friendly, kind and helpful. The hotel and room was overall clean and loved the shower pressure being up in the 4th floor and the lift was very useful.
What could be improved: Not assessable friendly- stairs to go up into reception area and in a noisy area too so for small children it can be too much. . didn’t know how to turn on the air conditioner so I had to leave the windows open which was a bit noisy down at the bar and the mosquitos came in and walked out with lots of bites all over myself and the baby. Also, book cot way in advance and in writing as we didn’t get a cot on our first night until the second night.Very Good – Matthieu from Belgium – August 11, 2025 (8/10)
We was there only one night, it was perfect for the purpose.
What could be improved: Street of the hotel is very noisy at night but ok when windows are closed.Comfortable and clean – Maciej from Poland – August 4, 2025 (8/10)
Room was clean and bed comfortable
What could be improved: Noisy street outside – coffeehouse downstairs,Cheap and cheerful – lovely bed – Jason from United Kingdom – August 2, 2025 (8/10)
Cosy room, cheap.
What could be improved: Bit too close to reception. I could hear them talking loudly.Very Good – All from Israel – July 29, 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: NothingWonderful – Hunter from Australia – July 27, 2025 (9/10)
Great bathroom, with good facilities, big shower and as new tiling!
My room was close to the street, and I didn't hear any of the late night noise.
It was a bit noisy were the staff were talking at reception though.
The room was a bit small for the large bed, fine to sleep in, but glad I don't make the beds!Wonderful – Darnish from India – June 19, 2025 (9/10)
Great location, very friendly and professional staff and well appointed rooms.
What could be improved: Rooms are a bit small but super comfortableVery Good – Stephan from Finland – June 19, 2025 (8/10)
Top location. Very friendly staff. Comfortable bed. My particular room was on the garden site where it was absolute quit. Quite AC and able to open the windows. Spend here four days. Yes, some parts are a bit outdated though, nothing to avoid the place. All the basics are functioning. This hotel is located in a vibrant nightlife area. Expect some noise and fumes. If you don't like that, go somewhere else. FD is a relative quite retreat in a busy street. Would definitely stay in FD again.
Perfect value, location and condition – Ross from United Kingdom – June 10, 2025 (9/10)
Amazing location, great modern condition, great price.
What could be improved: Room wasn’t ready and took nearly 30 mins, despite arriving nearly 2hrs past check in time.
