DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre
About
First Impressions
Walking into the DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre, you immediately get that warm cookie smell they're famous for — honestly, it never gets old. The lobby feels modern and welcoming, with that polished Hilton vibe but without being stuffy. What really struck me was how the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, which you don't always see at four-star hotels. The whole place has this energy that matches Rotterdam perfectly — professional but approachable, with just enough Dutch efficiency to make everything run smoothly.
Location That Actually Matters
You know what's great about staying on Leuvehaven? You're literally steps from the Oude Haven, which means you can grab morning coffee overlooking the historic harbor before the tourist crowds arrive. The Markthal is maybe a seven-minute walk, and I mean, where else can you get fresh stroopwafels and browse local vendors under that incredible ceiling? Couples seem to really love this spot — I can see why, since you can easily walk to dinner along the waterfront or catch a water taxi for a different perspective of the city's skyline.
The Room Experience
My room had those floor-to-ceiling windows that Rotterdam hotels do so well, giving you proper views of either the harbor or the city center depending on which side you're on. The beds are exactly what you'd expect from Hilton — comfortable without being revolutionary, but honestly that's what you want after a day of exploring. The bathroom was spacious enough that you're not bumping into everything, and the shower pressure was actually decent (which isn't always a given in European hotels, let's be real).
Breakfast Worth Getting Up For
The breakfast setup here surprised me in the best way. Sure, it's a buffet, but they've got continental options alongside some proper Dutch choices, plus vegetarian and gluten-free stuff that doesn't feel like an afterthought. I appreciated that they offer breakfast to go — perfect for those early morning museum visits or if you want to eat by the water. The coffee is strong enough to actually wake you up, and they keep the fresh fruit stocked throughout the morning rush.
Why Guests Love It
There's something to be said for a hotel that gets repeat visitors, and this place definitely has that going for it. I think it's because they've found that sweet spot between being reliable and having personality — you know what you're getting, but it doesn't feel generic. The location really is the star here though; being able to walk to the Cube Houses, pop over to the Erasmus Bridge for photos, or just wander through Centrum without needing public transport makes such a difference. It's the kind of place where you can actually experience Rotterdam rather than just sleep in it.
