Boathotel Rotterdam Wilhelmina Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Boathotel Rotterdam Wilhelmina? I actually walked past it twice before realizing this floating gem was my hotel for the night. Moored right in the Wijnhaven marina in the heart of Rotterdam, it’s literally a converted ship turned into a unique boutique hotel – and honestly, that’s underselling how cool this place really is.
The whole experience feels like staying on a friend’s really well-appointed yacht, except this friend has incredible taste and actually knows how to run hospitality. The cabins (because yes, they’re cabins, not rooms) are surprisingly spacious considering you’re on a boat, and the portholes give you these amazing water-level views of the harbor that you just can’t get anywhere else. I mean, where else are you going to fall asleep to the gentle rocking motion while being literally in the center of a major European city? The sound of water lapping against the hull is better than any white noise machine, though if you’re the type who gets seasick easily, maybe consider that – there is a very subtle movement, especially when other boats pass by.
What really sold me on this place was how the staff embraced the whole nautical theme without making it feel gimmicky. The breakfast is served in what used to be the ship’s dining hall, and you’re eating fresh Dutch cheese and local pastries while watching the morning ferry traffic – it’s oddly mesmerizing. The location is absolutely perfect if you want to explore Rotterdam’s rebuilt city center on foot. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Markthal and maybe ten minutes from the iconic cube houses, but tucked away enough in this quiet marina that you escape all the city noise at night. Parking can be a bit tricky since you’re right in the centrum, but there’s a garage nearby, and honestly, you probably won’t need a car anyway – everything’s walkable or easily reached by Rotterdam’s excellent public transport. I actually ended up loving the evening routine of walking back along the waterfront after dinner, seeing the city lights reflect off the water as I headed “home” to my floating hotel. It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special, even though it’s been there for years serving travelers who want something more interesting than another generic city hotel.

Reviews of Boathotel Rotterdam Wilhelmina
Comfortable and convenient, perfect for a city break in Rotterdam! – Vincent from Ireland – October 23, 2023 (8/10)
Location was excellent, close to everything but in a quiet area.
What could be improved: Very little to complain about, it is an old boat so there are some steep steps and slippery surfaces on deck but it is just something to be careful about not a negative.Geilomat – Daniel from Germany – August 28, 2023 (10/10)
A great location. A great host. Thank you Ronald, we all enjoyed our stay on the Wilhelmina. A once in a lifetime experiance.

A memorable place to stay! – Lorraine from Switzerland – October 23, 2022 (10/10)
It was so fun staying on a ship! I was impressed by how many people could stay there (12 people, but 2 bathroom). It encourages to spend time with the people you're traveling with.
What could be improved: Frischluftzufuhr war mit so vielen Leuten nicht immer so optimal.
What could be improved: De douche werd soms plotseling extreem heet.Good – Ton from Netherlands – May 21, 2024 (7/10)
What could be improved: Sloten op de badkamers misten.
Dakramen waren niet waterdicht.Urlaub – Yvonne from Germany – August 12, 2023 (8/10)
Alles vorhanden was man benötigt. Genug Zimmer für eine Großfamilie.
Zeer leuke ervaring! – Sarah from Belgium – March 27, 2023 (8/10)
What could be improved: Hier en daar zijn er reparaties nodig.
